Academic Coordinator

Sarah Caughey

The Academic Coordinator (AC) supports the activities of Winthrop’s Allston Burr Assistant Dean and the academic role of the House by serving as the first initial contact for the wide variety of students (430+ Winthropians), alumni/ae, Harvard faculty, and administrators and as a source of information for student administrative concerns.
The AC maintains the Dean’s office during its hours of operation by responding to telephone calls and mail for the Dean, handling confidential student files, preparing dockets and correspondence before and after Administrative Board and Honor Council meetings, coordinating activities for Commencement, and providing day-to-day support for the Dean.

From Sarah:

AC photoI’m Sarah Caughey (pronounced C-O-Y), the academic coordinator for Winthrop. I started in March of this year (2020), so I’m still learning my way around Harvard, but I’ve been in the Boston area for the last 16 years, so I am ready and willing to recommend places to go and things to do.

I was born and raised in Maryland (near Baltimore), and so I always have Old Bay in my kitchen. I attended Syracuse University, where I double majored in History and English, and spent a year in England through the Syracuse London program.

Prior to coming to Harvard, I worked in several different fields, including marketing, non-profit, and a year of service with AmeriCorps.  Most recently, I spent several years working in hospital administration at Mount Auburn.

My hobbies include reading (particularly history and genre fiction), cooking, martial arts, and travel. I love visiting historical sites (you should do a ranger-guided tour at the Longfellow House, if you haven’t already), and checking out local restaurants and breweries. I look forward to meeting you all!
