History, art and architecture have been passions for me since I was very young. My interest in the arts led me to become a registered architect and to earn an MPhil in the History and Philosophy of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. During the intensity of my intellectual studies, I would recognize the importance of physical labor, spending time in nature and being with people. During my studies, I spent time hitchhiking around the United States, living and working with the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and working as a lobsterman on Bailey Island, Maine. Social justice issues have also always been very important to me which inspired me to work with gangs on the west side of Chicago, failure-to-thrive infants and children and young people in inner city schools. As a Host Family to incoming freshmen for several years my husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Harvard students. I very much look forward to spending time with the students and staff of Winthrop House!
