Philip Han is an investor, entrepreneur, and builder focused on helping people make better, more intentional decisions about their futures. After more than three decades in finance and institutional investing, he spent two years as a fellow with Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative, where he began developing technology-enabled ventures across education, personal finance, relationships, and life planning.

His current work includes Launch Plan (launchplan.org), a nonprofit platform that helps young people understand the long-term financial and life consequences of decisions involving education, careers, location, and lifestyle. He is also building Flight Plan, a financial-planning platform organized around future-life scenarios, and Flustered, a platform that explores embarrassment—one of the most universal yet underexamined human emotions. He is developing several additional early-stage projects that combine technology and data with a deeper understanding of how the evolved human mind actually works—its strengths, biases, emotions, and blind spots—to help people make richer, more informed decisions.

Previously, Philip served as chief investment officer of Saban Capital Group. During his more than twenty years at the firm, he was responsible for evaluating and executing investments across a global portfolio. In 2009, he founded the firm’s income-focused real estate platform and grew it to more than $2 billion in assets under management across four real estate verticals operating in more than half of the United States.

Philip is a board member of the UCLA Investment Company, which oversees the endowment of the UCLA Foundation. He also serves on the board of trustees of the Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children, where he is vice chair of the investment committee.

Philip’s transition from investor to builder included taking his own version of an “endless summer,” chasing summer swells around the world while considering the direction of his next chapter. He is also an aspiring vigneron, learning to grow grapes and craft wine through a small vineyard in Bordeaux, France.

As a member of the Winthrop House Senior Common Room, Philip welcomes conversations with students about career pivots, entrepreneurship, investing, personal finance, emerging technology, taking calculated risks, surfing, and the nonlinear process of deciding what to do next.
