Hong Qu
Hong Qu is an adjunct lecturer at Harvard Kennedy School teaching classes in data visualization. As a founding engineer on YouTube’s startup team, he designed key features including the channels, video sharing, and skippable ads. He was a visiting Nieman Fellow at Harvard in 2013.
Hong grew up in the coolest neighborhood in America: Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Hong Qu's research examines how information systems, AI technologies, and social institutions interact to shape power, knowledge, and human agency. His career spans social media platform design, journalism, and public policy, culminating in research on participatory AI governance: How can emerging information technologies be governed to serve the public good?
Hong is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Wesleyan University and the School of Information at UC Berkeley.
