It's the people that make Winthrop special! Meet the members of the Winthrop House staff and community! You can view people by interest area or by role.
Who does what?
- Faculty Deans (Steve Chong and Kiran Gajwani): Oversee all aspects of House Life. They live in the House and work closely with the Resident Dean, House Administrator, Resident Tutors, and others in the House.
- Allston Burr Resident Dean (Remei Capdevila Werning): Serves as the dean of students affiliated with Winthrop. The Resident Dean is responsible for the academic progress and personal welfare of undergraduate students in Winthrop. She represents students at the Administrative Board and Honor Council and works with departments on academic issues affecting individual students.
- House Administrator (Paris Sanders): Handles many aspects of the operation of Winthrop, including budget and finance, administrative responsibilities, hiring and supervision of student workers, overseeing use of House common spaces, maintaining the House calendar, and responding to various inquiries from students and others.
- Academic Coordinator (Sarah Caughey): Supports the activities of the Allston Burr Resident Dean of the House and the academic role of the House by serving as the first initial contact for the wide variety of students, alumni, faculty, and administrators and as a source of information for student administrative concerns.
- Building Manager (Sarah Gallant): Responsible for the custodial staff, maintenance of all House spaces, check-in and check-out of residents, all keys and swipe access, mail, packages, and security.
- Resident Tutors: Live in entryways with students and play a vital role in the residential and educational life of undergraduates. Res Tutors help build community and provide advising and support in various academic areas, pre-professional fields, and community-based specialties.
- Tutor on Call: During the academic year, a Winthrop Resident Tutor is the designated Tutor on Call (TOC) and can be contacted at 617-872-9911 on weekends and evenings (i.e., outside business hours) for problems and emergencies.
- House Committee aka “HoCo”: The representative body for Winthrop residents. HoCo’s main focus is planning social events for the House, but it also tackles student advocacy issues such as dining hall restrictions, house improvements, and academic advising. During the semester, HoCo meets weekly in the JCR: drop in and get more involved in House life!
- Scholars-in-Residence: Scholars that live in Winthrop!
- House Aides: Help with community events and administrative support for the House.
- Non-Resident Tutors: offer advice and mentorship to students based on their areas of expertise.
- Senior Common Room Members: The Senior Common Room refers to both a physical location and a group of people. The group of people that is Winthrop's SCR comprises scholars and professionals from a diversity of backgrounds as well as the Resident Tutors, Scholars-in-Residence, and various other Winthrop staff.
- Additional House Community members include our Custodial Team, HUDS Staff, Security staff, and Resident Affiliates.
