Seth Towns

Non-Resident Tutor

Hello Winthropians! My name is Seth Towns, and I graduated in May 2020. I’m extremely excited to return to Winthrop - the community that characterized some of my most formative years. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, and attended Columbus Northland High School before moving to Cambridge.

While at Harvard, I studied sociology and played on the Men’s Basketball Team. In my second year (and my first in Winthrop) I was named Ivy League Player of the Year and AP All-American after helping my team win a conference championship. Due to several significant injuries, I spent my remaining years of eligibility at Ohio State (where I earned my Master’s in Sports Management) and Howard (where I began coursework for a Ph.D. in African American Literature).

Off the court, I have maintained vocal advocacy for social justice, appearing on and in publications such as USA Today, Sportscenter, ESPN, The Washington Post, Yahoo, Vanity Fair, and the Harvard Crimson to discuss the ongoing effects of systemic racism and how we might educate ourselves to combat it.

I am currently in my first year as an assistant coach for the Harvard Men’s Basketball Team and I look forward to supporting you all through these incredible years!
