Senior Common Room

You know you're a misfit when you’re considered odd within institutions (Harvard) research fields (computer security), and communities (ethical non-monogamy) that attract fellow misfits. For example, I'm a scientist insofar as I conduct scientific experiments, but I am deeply uncomfortable with the time and effort scientists enthusiastically dedicate to ranking our peers and promoting ourselves, often thinly veiled as reviewing others’ work and advocating for our own. I thus try to engage with academic science, technology, business, and entrepreneurship in ways that limit my complicity in practices that conflict with my moral compass. I love engaging with undergraduates and others not yet indoctrinated to believe the rules of the “adult” world are sensible and immutable. My experience in house life includes nine years as a Resident Tutor in Leverett. Outside my work/campus life, I am the primary parent of two daughters (born 2006 & 2009), I rock climb, and bike.
