Senior Common Room
The Senior Common Room (Reid S. Tonkens Memorial Room) is located on the main floor of Standish Hall (C Entry). It is an elegant space for House gatherings, musical events, and lectures. The SCR contains a Steinway piano and a collection of classic books and heritage photos. It has an attached kitchenette.
The SCR was endowed to honor the memory of Reid S. Tonkens, a member of the Class of 1962. Photo reproductions of President John F. Kennedy’s official White House portrait, Governor John Winthrop, W.E.B. DuBois, John Hope Franklin, and Edwin Bush Jordain Jr. adorn the room.
Students do not have card-swipe access to the SCR. However, students can request to reserve the room for events by emailing the House Administrator wi-ha@fas.harvard.edu. You can view the schedule for the SCR online.
Note that "Senior" in "Senior Common Room" refers not to senior undergraduates, but senior members of the Winthrop community, including Resident Tutors, Resident Scholars, faculty and deans.
Please see this page for members of the Senior Common Room.
